Hey there, salon pros! It's Matt Beck from FreeSalonEducation.com, and I'm thrilled to bring you my latest YouTube tutorial on how to cut the perfect Tousled Long Bob (Lob). Whether your client has fine hair, wavy locks, or curly tresses, this haircut is versatile and chic.
Let's dive into the details of this trendy and client-friendly cut!
Video Highlights:
In this video, I guide you through the process of creating a Tousled Long Bob that suits various hair types. The key to this haircut lies in maintaining the length along the exterior while incorporating interior texture and layering for movement.
Sectioning Technique:
I begin by separating the hair into left and right sections, followed by a front-to-back division. This strategic sectioning sets the stage for a well-balanced cut. I share insights into the importance of understanding the client's head shape and how it influences the cutting angles. Learn more about this by taking my FREE Masterclass found here (https://freesaloneducation.com/#class)
Working on the Back:
Moving on to the back section, I emphasize the significance of the occipital bone as a reference point. The horizontal parting technique ensures consistency, while a slight tilt of the client's head aids in achieving the desired angle. I address the misconception surrounding head tilting, clarifying that it primarily helps with the cutting angle and not skin tightening.
Razor Cutting Technique:
The primary tool for this cut is the TriRazor, a versatile razor designed by Free Salon Education. I demonstrate the soft and patient approach to razor cutting, emphasizing the importance of creating a lightweight feel and avoiding a blunt line.
Dry Cutting and Texturizing:
Transitioning to the dry cut, I introduce the FSE Hybrid Elite scissor for Dry haircutting techniques. The dry-cutting technique involves point cutting and interior work, ensuring a soft yet clean line. I showcase a unique technique for creating movement in the crown area, using point cutting and elevation.
Blow-Drying and Final Touches:
After completing the cut, I share insights on blow-drying the hair for the perfect finish. I then switch to the FSE Dual20 Pro scissor for blending and texturizing, creating a seamless look.
Closing Thoughts:
In conclusion, the Tousled Long Bob is not only a stylish choice but also an easy transition for clients. With minimal layers and a focus on maintaining bulk, it's a versatile option for various hair types. If you enjoyed the video, let me know in the comments section, and don't forget to check out the tools used in this tutorial I've created a section below so you can easily find them.
Thank you for watching, and I look forward to sharing more tips and techniques with you. Stay inspired, salon pros!

The video was educational, it’s a plus to know your tools and what they can and can not do in cutting hair. Once I was trying to cut hair with a pair of scissors that was pushing the hair away from the blade not realizing that I was using the wrong scissors. Some scissors push and some pull. I really like your cap. I love the cut more. Can’t wait until the next cut.
