Why Connor Cuts First YouTube Video Matters More Than People Realize
Every once in a while, you come across a video that reminds you why YouTube is still one of the greatest opportunities in the world for creatives.
I stumbled onto this haircut tutorial from a young barber doing a mid blowout taper, and honestly, I was blown away. Not just by the haircut itself, but by the confidence, pacing, education, camera work, and overall quality of the video.
Then I got to the end and heard him say:
“Since this is my first YouTube video…”
That stopped me in my tracks.
Here’s the video if you haven’t seen it yet:
As somebody who has spent over a decade building content online and growing an audience into the millions through Free Salon Education, I think there’s a huge lesson here that people need to hear.
We live in a time where someone can upload their very first educational video and instantly connect with people.
That’s crazy.
There used to be this idea that you had to grind for years before anybody noticed you. That you needed thousands of uploads before traction happened. But platforms have changed. Audiences have changed. Opportunity has changed.
Now? One video can literally change your career.
And honestly, that’s exciting.
What stood out to me most watching this tutorial was how natural the education felt. The haircut was solid. The communication was clear. The sectioning made sense. The pacing was easy to follow. Even little details like explaining why he was preserving weight behind the ears or how he was blending shear work into clipper work showed real thought process behind the craft.
You can tell this isn’t somebody randomly turning a camera on.
This is somebody who genuinely cares about the details.
And I think that’s why the video works.
One of my favorite moments in the entire tutorial was when he admitted he was nervous to start making educational content but said:
“As long as one person gains value from this, that’s all that matters.”
That mindset is exactly why people should start creating.
Not because you’re guaranteed views.
Not because you’re guaranteed subscribers.
Not because you’re trying to become famous.
But because helping even one person matters.
Ironically, that’s usually what ends up building the audience anyway.
The other thing I think people need to understand is this:
I have over a million subscribers across YouTube and social media platforms, and I put out videos all the time that get similar view counts to this kid’s very first upload.
That should encourage people, not discourage them.
Because it proves that audiences care more about value than status.
You don’t need permission anymore.
You don’t need to “wait until you’re ready.”
You don’t need a massive following before you begin.
You just need to start.
That’s why I wanted to write this.
To encourage this creator to keep going.
To encourage other hairdressers and barbers to stop overthinking content.
And to remind people that right now might actually be the best time ever to try something creative online.
So if you’re reading this, go watch the video. Support the channel. Drop a comment. Subscribe.
And if you’re the creator who made this:
Keep going.
Seriously.
Your first video already showed more thought, structure, and educational value than a lot of channels ever reach. The nerves were worth it. Don’t stop now.

I feel the video was well made. Good content, monotone calm voice. And approached with the perfect explanation and instructions of all the procedures to allow anyone follow along and accomplish a cut like his.
